Stress Blocks Learning

STRESS BLOCKS LEARNING! The focus should be on learning and understanding, not on maintaining the appearance of being busy and working hard. The stress and dissipated energy associated with trying to maintain appearances detract from focusing energy and enthusiasm on learning. Mental work is often quiet and motionless, as when a student is casually looking at a well placed educational poster on the classroom wall. Often, a person deep in thought may have a "vacant" expression and may be quiet and apparently at a low energy state. Sometimes learning involves high energy activities and discussions. Though hard work, effort and professional behavior should be rewarded, in my classes the focus is on proficiency in the subject matter. We will not be putting on a "show" in my classes for administrators, parents or other visitors. We'll be too busy learning!
